Dawn Douglass Hall and Dan Hall

Dawn Douglass ’85 Hall and Dan Hall ’85 moved to Albania in August to use their Valpo education degrees, teaching, and administrative experience to help start a school in an area in need. They heard about the opportunity in October 2013. Less than one year later, they sold their belongings, said goodbye to their four adult children (Andy, 24, Becky, 22, Abby, 20, Zeke, 18), and flew around the world. They took their son Isaac, 12, and daughter Elisabeth, 10, to join in the adventure. The school has grown to 90 students in its first year.

Michael LeRose

Michael LeRose ’85 and his family founded a nonprofit organization called Destination4Good, in which they connect individuals and families with opportunities to volunteer while on vacation. While on a trip around the world in 2010, Michael, his wife Marie, and their four children, donated schoolbooks and volunteered time at a rural school in Vietnam. After they saw the impact that this simple gift had on the local school children as well as their own family, they were inspired to form an organization to help other families make a difference while on vacation. The organization has supported numerous projects, including a soccer program for at-risk boys in Cape Town, South Africa, orphanages in Zimbabwe, Mexico, and Peru, and more.
