Spoken on Campus
You leave here with an education that has taught you to think critically, and place the joy of service in your hearts. So put it to good use. Lift those around you. Lead lives of purpose and meaning.
Let those of us who are equity seekers in this moment declare that we may be hard-pressed on every side, but we are not crushed. We may be perplexed, but we are not in despair. We may be persecuted, but we are not forsaken.
“They are going to be great healers. What I know of them, and what I know of their professors, is that they will make us so proud with what they do on behalf of our community members.”
When I’d go to visit other campuses, there was almost this immediate feeling of ‘hey mom, dad, can we be done with this tour? I think we’re done.’ Valpo gave me a good baseline of how to judge other places.
Everybody, not just in my department but across campus, we’re here for the development of the students. We make decisions along those lines, we buy equipment for the capability of doing that. If it’s a resource that’s really going to benefit students, it’s been really easy to do what I feel is necessary and get those resources.
As an environmental engineering major, I was pretty excited to come across an opportunity to connect and learn more about sustainability in our school and community, especially alongside fellow students who are just as passionate and curious as I am.
In the short amount of time that I have been a part of a sorority, I have felt genuine love from my sisters and the entire Fraternity-Sorority Life community. There is so much support from the community as a whole, and no matter which fraternity or sorority you join, my advice would be to trust the process because you will end up exactly where you need to be!
One thing that I didn’t see in any other university is how helpful people are at Valpo. People are really helpful and kind and it’s like a big family. I remember thinking during my interview ‘are these people really this lovely and nice?’ and yes, they are!
I’m an international student and people sometimes ask me why did you choose Valpo, a small school in Indiana? Now that I look back, I don’t think I would have succeeded in the way that I had had it not been for Valpo because I was pioneering a path that most people have not gone through.
