Rev. Daniel C. Brockopp
Rev. Daniel C. Brockopp, 81, died Jan. 1, 2016, in Portage, Wis. He is survived by his wife, Leona, whom he married on May 18, 2008. Born on Sept. 7, 1934, in Glidden, Wis., he was the son of the late Rev. William and Martha Brockopp. Rev. Brockopp grew up in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Glidden, Wis., where his father served as pastor. He earned a B.S. in education at Concordia College, a bachelor of theology from Concordia Theological Seminary, and a master of sacred theology from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.
In 1962, Rev. Brockopp was ordained into the Holy Ministry of the Lutheran Church. He began his career at Valparaiso University in 1964, which spanned 35 years. He retired as the University pastor and dean of the Chapel in 1998. During his time at Valpo, he provided spiritual guidance to innumerable students, faculty, and community members.
In recent years, he taught Bible classes at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Portage, Wis. and provided counsel on liturgical theology to the pastoral staff. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife to Door County and to England.
