Carl Frederick Galow Jr. ’57

Carl Frederick Galow Jr., 85, died April 8, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bette. He is survived by his daughter, Martha (Tim) Fuller.

Galow received his B.A. from Valparaiso University in 1957, followed by a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin and a doctor of education from Oklahoma State University.

Galow arrived at Valparaiso University in the late 1960s and founded the University’s journalism program and later served as chair of the newly created Journalism Department and Dean of Men. Later, Galow was the director of Valpo’s Cambridge Study Center, and retired from teaching in the Communications Department in the mid-1990s.

Outside of his career, Galow watched college basketball and football, was an avid reader, played handball, and enjoyed woodworking. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and generous heart.
